The UK Nationals Jigsaw Puzzle Championship took place in Bradford over the weekend hosting over 350 jigsaw puzzlers for this, the inaugural UK Nationals jigsaw puzzle championship.
The event comprised two different categories; Solos and Pairs, with puzzlers racing to complete an exclusive Ravensburger 500-piece puzzle in each. Emma Quirke from Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland won the Solos competition with a time of 41 minutes and 55 seconds, while Sarah Mills and Claire Heyes from Norwich were the winning duo finishing the Pairs event in 30 minutes and 30 seconds. Winners took the coveted golden jigsaw piece as their trophy.
The UK Nationals competition was the first to be organised by the United Kingdom Jigsaw Puzzle Association (UKJPA). The mega puzzle meet event was also the first UK event of its kind to be affiliated with the annual World Championships taking place in Spain.
Anneka Thompson, the Harrogate-based UKJPA founder and organiser of the event said, “While jigsaws have often been regarded as largely individual activity, the interest in speed puzzling has surged recently. This was reflected in the response to this, our first UK Nationals, which brought together competitors from far and wide. Our winning puzzlers achieved some great times and above all, the spirit of fun, friendship and community was clear.”
The 500-piece championship puzzles were Time for Tea by Georgia Breeze and Crazy Street No.1 The Harbour by Stuart Matthews. Both are available to purchase now from www.ravensburger.co.uk.
