Apparently it’s all about collectible toys, super-cool construction kits, hatching animals, weeing dolls –and unicorn poo!
Yes folks, the The UK’s number ONE parenting site for product reviews, have announced the winners of their MadeForMums Toy Awards 2018 – as chosen by over 500 child judges and highlights this year’s must-have Christmas toys!
Collectible toys featured strongly in the shortlisted entries – with ‘surprise’ toys that hatch (Rainbocorns) or emerge from foam-filled pods (Playfoam Pals Wild Friends) stealing the child judges’ hearts. And anything unicorn-related was still a hit – from the talking, singing wonders of Myla the Magical Make-up Unicorn (Best Interactive Toy) to a squeal-inducingly simple tub of ‘rare’ Unicorn Poo (Best Stocking Filler).
Other standouts include Boxer, the quirky robot friend (Best Robot Toy), Gravitrax, a supercool 21st-century take on the marble run (Best STEM Toy) and a hilarious interactive doll that jiggles and giggles as she wees (Baby Alive Potty Dance Baby Doll).
Our judges also loved clever updates on previous bestselling toys, especially Fingerlings Hugs (Best Soft Toy) a large, cuddly, cheeky version of last year’s must-have finger-held interactive monkey.
Susie Boone, Editor MadeForMums, says: ‘The results of this year’s MadeForMums Toy Awards judging show clearly that children are loving toys they can collect – especially if they can unwrap, hatch or discover them in a pot of gunge.
‘That’s not to say classic toys have had their day: wooden toys scored highly this year, too, with a timber mud kitchen winning Best Toy for Pretend Play, and a train set wowing our child testers’ parents with its quality – for only £15.’
The winning toys are chosen by over 500 children aged from 12 weeks old to 15 years – the real toy experts –– who tested the toys and gave their honest verdicts.
Each toy is scored for play potential and value for money and the children’s scores, combined with the verdicts of expert (grown-up) judges from the MadeForMums editorial team and specially invited influencer judges including teen YouTube stars Amazing Arabella and JD the Kid, Al Ferguson, founder of The Dad Network, Laura Hamilton, star of Dancing on Ice, parent-led campaign group Let Toys Be Toys and the Editor of toy industry magazine Toy News and the world’s leading Toyologist, yours truly.
