Toyology

First impressions – Marks out of ten

9/10

I was so excited when the paper came off the parcel.

Easy to open

9/10

Really really easy, everything was well packaged but very easy to open.

Time to get ready to play

9/10

We opened the house up and took all the little pieces out easily, it was very quick to assemble.

Easy to understand

10/10

The box showed very clear pictures of how the house should look so we copied this, again, really easy.

Play Time first time

9/10

I set up the house quickly and had lots of fun deciding where everything should go.

Overall impression

8/10

Mum – Excellent for imaginative play, we’ve spent lots of time playing with this.  Jamie has also loved playing with the Peppa Pig dominoes, as they use pictures of the Peppa pig characters Jamie has found it really easy to understand.

Value for money

7/10

Mum – The house I thought was maybe a little pricey, but Jamie has loved playing with it and making up games to play.  I think the dominoes are a brilliant gift and we’ve loved playing with them together.

Hannah and Dot Starlight

First impressions

10/10

I was very interested as I had just done the moon as a topic and school and Dot was born on the day that the first man went on the moon.

Easy to open

5/10

Needed sissors to open the packaging and bit of help from mummy

Time to get ready to play

10/10

I played with Dot right away.

Easy to understand

10/10

Just a hard rag doll

Play Time first time

7/10

Got bored very soon as she didn’t do much

Overall impression

6/10

Not that interesting, liked the idea but would not be on my christmas list

Value for money
5/10

Mummy says not worth the money, as it’s not a toy I would play with.

I have had alot of fun being a Toyologist, thank you choosing me, it has been like christmas every week, fun for the whole family. I would like to be a Toyologist when i grow up!

Mio and Luca with Paper Jamz

First impressions

Mio 10/10
Luca 10/10

Luca thought it looked good and could play loads of tunes.

Easy to open

Mio 10/10
Luca 8.5/10

Mio – easy to open

Time to get ready to play

Mio 9/10
Luca 8/10

Easy to understand

Mio 5/10
Luca 5/10

Luca – loads of things to know about it to get it to work

Play Time first time

Mio 5/10
Luca 6/10

Luca – I thought it was quite good

Overall impression

Mio 7/10

It was alright. At first I thought it could only play one song which would be boring -

Luca – 6.5/10

It’s not that great because when you are doing strumming it doesn’t work and when you go on ‘Mode’ and you hear a cord what happens is you press one of the cords you can hear the tune that your’re going to play and it doesn’t play the cord. I am a bit biased as I do play the guitar for real, I suppose it wqould be better for someone who just wants to pick up and have a quick play.

Dad – I think it is brilliant, I’m no musician but this does the trick for me, perhaps one or the BIGGER kids – 10/10

Evie and Barbie Fashion Tale

First impressions
10/10

I love Barbie, opened the box and screamed a bit.
Easy to open

7/10
She was a bit too well tied in, just one would have been enough.

Time to get ready to play
7/10
Pretty quick, only scoring it low cos of too many ties.

Easy to Understand
10/10

Nothing to it, just have to decide on what story we’re going to play.

Play time first

8/10
Me and my dad pretended she was a catwalk model, it was funny as dad made here fall over like some models do on the catwalk.

Overall impression
8/10
It was nice to just get a doll that didn’t do much apart from doll stuff and not be too clever, just a normal doll to play with.

Value for money
6/10
A bit expensive mum reckons, but I’d save up for another.

Luca and Mio and Iron Man 2 – R/C Iron Man

Luca and Mio with Iron Man RC from peter jenkinson on Vimeo.

First impressions -

10/10

Luca – Wow

Mio – Had no idea this toy existed, brilliant.

Easy to open

We opened this toy very quickly, nothing could stop us starting our playtime with it.

9/10

Easy enough

Just had to get the batteries in, not a struggle, did it ourselves.

Time to get ready to play -

9/10

We were pretty keen to get started so it took no time at all.

Easy to understand

9/10

Easy, Easy

Play Time first time

10/10

Mio – This is an awesome remote control, loads of action stuff and robtic walking movement.

Luca – Never seen anything quite like this, he did fall down a couple of times at first but we had him walking along and firing at stuff with his shoulder cannons in a short time.

Overall impression

10/10

Mio – Iron Man was my favourite toy because it walks, fires, speaks and makes noises!

Luca  -  Iron Man was my favourite toy too because if you hold one of the buttons it makes it walk and fire and it has a cool thing you wear on your wrist to control it.

Value for money

9/10

Mum – Its the most epensive toy they’ve had on test, and at about £50 is only somethingfor birthdays and Christmas time but the boys both loved it so I’ve scored it high on value for money.

Evie and Go Go my walking pup

First impressions

9/10

Brilliant, I’d seen this on Telly and thought it looked really cool

Easy to open

6/10

A few too many fiddly bits, dad helped with his scissors

Time to get ready to play

9/10

Just switch her on and your “ruff”

Easy to understand

9/10

Easy to get started and taking a stroll, then you learn how to control it with voice commands and that even more fun.

Play Time first time

9/10

I had fun from the first go, I even took it outside for a walk. She even responds when you give her a stroke. Dad wants a Version 2 that fetches sticks.

Overall impression –

9/10

I like it loads, we haven’t a pet but a robotic dog isn’t such a bad substitute. Dad likes the fact is doesn’t make a mess and mum because it’s cheap to feed – Hee hee

Value for money

8/10

It isn’t cheap but it’s so much fun and I’ve had such a giggle with my family messing about with it.

Joseph and his Zhu Zhu pet hamsters

First impressions

9/10

I thought I was getting some pets!

Easy to open

9/10

It was easy to open and easy to make work

Time to get ready to play

9/10

Easy and almost instant once the batteries where put in

Easy to understand

9/10

Easy for children to play with as you press the button on the hamsters back which sets them off roaming around the room!

Play Time first time

9/10

I was very excited as we haven’t got any pets at home yet so I thought they were great as they moved around the room and looked like proper hamsters. I enjoyed setting both the hamsters off together to see which hamster won a race!

Overall impression –

8/10

I really like these Zhu Zhu hamsters and when mummy showed me the different things that you can buy for it like the houses /cars and clothes I was even more excited…without buying the accessories I think I might get bored fairly quick but I think mumy has her eye on buying me a hamster house.

Value for money

7/10

Not too bad a price for the individual hamster but can imagine it gets pretty pricey if you get all the accessories, there are loads and loads.

First impressions

10/10

Really liked the funky and well “branded” box. I love Hello Kitty and was very excited. The box would be an easy shape to wrap at Christmas.

Easy to open

10/10

Very easy and quick to open, which is great with an excited child ! The minimum packaging in the box  was  good too, and the  cardboard made a good “crown” that I wore!!!

Easy to understand

6/10

Instructions were easy to read however harder to carry out.  Measuring the small amounts of plaster and water can be very tricky.  I would seriously suggest the plaster comes in 6 small pre weighed bags to save a lot of mess measuring things out. Also a small spoon or dropper to help measure out the water would have been good too, as I have no jug that measures the tiny amounts needed

Play time first time

4/10

Really easy to actually mix and turning can be fun. However the results were not impressive. In fact we had tears as THREE attempts to make a whole Hello Kitty model failed…… it was almost impossible to get out in one piece.

Overall impression

3/10

Will definitely not be buying this. The box and idea looks great, even thought about a craft party, using this for her friends – But it just doesn’t work!  Didn’t even get to try the paints as we’ve all lost interest.

First impressions

9/10

I am a big fan of Thomas the tank engine so was really excited when I saw the box.

Easy to open

8/10

Easy to open, no fiddly bits.

Time to get ready to play

10/10

The play set just unfolds and it’s ready to play with, really good.

Easy to understand

10/10

Very easy to understand.

Play Time first time

9/10

I played with this straight away and loved showing mum where all the trains could go on the track.

Overall impression

9/10

It’s a really good idea – folds up so is easy to pack away and take with you when going out.

Value for money

8/10

Mum thought it was reasonably good value for money, I can see that this will be played with a lot by Jamie and his friends.

Josephs and his Ben 10 Car

First impressions

9/10

I really liked the box and knew it was something to do with Ben 10

Easy to open

10/10

Easy Easy

Time to get ready to play

9/10

Very quick as there were no ties just all in little bags. It was really easy to put the car together.

Easy to Understand

9/10

Mummy showed me how to convert the car into the plane/submarine and how to insert the little arrow shooters then I knew it did it myself after that.

Play time first

8/10

I liked converting the car into a plane and putting the wings on and pretending to shoot out the arrows whilst flying it through the air.

Overall impression

I really like Ben 10 so likes the car alot though I would’ve preferred a actual Ben driving the car instead of a normal green man.

Value for money

7/10

A fair price for a toy that should last quite a long time
