One of Britain’s most promising London 2012 Olympic hopefuls has been transformed into a giant action figure to become a real-life Power Ranger toy. Aaron Cook, 20, the current British Taekwondo Champion and a strong contendor for a gold at London 2012 is the only person outside of the TV show to wear the iconic red suit and the first ever honourary member of the Power Rangers. Tomorrow you can see him exhibited in a giant 3 metre by 1.5 metre toy box at Westfield shopping centre. The Olympic hopeful Cook said “I was mad about Power Rangers as a kid so my parents took me to a local Taekwondo club in Dorchester where I fell in love with the sport. The rest, as they say, is history. I’m hoping that by joining the Power Rangers I’ll help to inspire British children to follow in my footsteps, which will hopefully include a medal at the London 2012 Olympics.”

Mess Removal Robot

This Bigtrak/Robosapien style hybrid is a fully remote controlled machine that you steer about picking up stuff from the floor. Drive it toward the mess making object, clasp the hands around the item, it’ll grab it and then pivot it’s torso around to dump it into the collector at the back. It’ll also operates autonomously, seeing objects about eight inches away and happily pick these up on its lonesome.  Add  screeching brake sounds and comments on work related activity (“too heavy for me”, “One step closer to a cleaner world” etc) and we’ve found an entertaining ball/plush/sock tidying machine that’s highly entertaining. We’re disappointed that it can’t quite get low enough to gather up our LEGO but we trust the makers will take note and ensure this happens on version 2.0. $70 for yours HERE

Parrot AR Drone available on Android

Its the news we wanted but feared would never hear at Toyology Towers, you see we really like the AR Drone and all the clever things this Quadricopter can do BUT we’re an Android OS affair here. Each time the AR Drone paid us a visit at  Toyology HQ we had to borrow an unfamiliar “i” device on which to fly it which led to sub-standard results. We wanted to like it but struggled – Next week they’re sending us another of the Augmented Reality capable gaming machines that just so happen to be amazing at manouvering about (so our iPhone loving friends tell us) we’re salivating at the thought of its arrival. Right, off to work, must  creat an amazing assualt course on which to fly our new arrival…I

Raging Raptor in Red

We’ve not seen much new on the Rpobotic Raptor scene for a couple of years since Wowwee launched one onto the RC scene a few years back. This one is from iloverobots.com, a spin off company of the Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics department. The fierce looking machine has three play modes – Autonomous lets him patrol using his object avoidance to hunt his prey/scare the family pet – Guard mode where he stands and wait for intruders/family pets, chasing them off if they get too close and Remote control mode where you steer Blazor about on his springy legs, chasing the family pet. Only launched back in Feb this year the Raptor has some pretty decent discounts over in the US, which might make up the difference for UK shipping..More info HERE

Over at the Indy 500 on Sunday Team Hot Wheels broke the world record distance jumped in a 4WD vehicle. Tanner Foust, in his mean looking motor, dropped the equivalent of ten stories, running down 90 feet of track before hitting the ramp and flying 332 feet in his ride….Too much talking already, watch the video.

Eggbods Roll Out

Movie Merchandise is set to be a big hit this year, there are plenty of films to tie up with and there’s some playthings coming through, as well as some very samey stuff that we’ve seen over and over before. So, one of the biggest hit of this year is bound to be the latest Transformers installment, Dark of the Moon, and we’re tipping this new line-up from BLUW to do rather well. Don’t get us wrong we love shape shifting action figures and the like but for something a bit different how about the Eggbods Transformer range. Bumble Egg, Eggtimus Prime and the Evil Eggatron are available for you mix and match delight as each head can be swapped with the others to create a brand new character, one that even Michael Bay hasn’t yet considered.

The increasing popularity of the RcChopper has been largely due to the addition of the Gyroscope, giving even those with the fattest of fingers the ability to stay aloft for longer. We’ve been looking for something a bit different for a while now, whilst we’ve enjoyed the various chopper models, sizes, shapes, missile firing ones and even one in the guise of a giant wasp, we’ve hankered for more. Last years arrival o the Hawk from Spinmaster had us mildly amused, a camera on board yes great, but with only two channel control it meant our footage was equally split between mid-air flight and tumbling about on the floor. May we introduce you to the  world’s first 3 Channel chopper with built-in camera, a 1.3 megapixel number, to take stills and moving footage AND it features the all important gyroscope so you’ll be taking quality aerial footage. At £70 these are certain to fly off the shelves sharpish. Get yours HERE

Alien Facehugger only wants a cuddle

You’ll remember this little bad boy (or girl) from the “hide behind the sofa” film Aliens with thecuber brave Sigourney Weaver, unmoved by any manner of supersized green/teeth bearing nasty ET types. If you are unaware of this film, get yourself one of these poseable plushes before you sit down, lights dimmed for the first time and surprise, nay, terrify, anyone else in the room at the appropriate point. Yes, we condone attaching it to your face and running around screaming. They’ll forgive you, after a few moments at least as they climb back in through the window. £24.99 HERE

After spending a week in the company of the forthcoming range of Bladez Toyz “Pump n Play” range of remote controls we’re inclined to offer up our first Gold award of 2011. The monster size R/C’s come flat packed with a kiddie friendly remote unit plus an air pump to inflate it, within the launch range are a couple of F1 cars, a Dumper Truck and the robot pictured. Retailing about £35 on launch you’ll buy your chosen ride and, as you can remove the drive carriage on the underside, be able to simply slot this into a stand alone inflatable from within the range, which will cost less cash, so you can have a handful of rides but only lay out for one R/C module.  So, kids get the fun of creating their R/C and they’re also able to swap the bodies over. Yes, this is what Toyology Gold was made for.
