Hardly a person among us would turn down the offer of a drum kit, its one of those instruments that you can feel like you’re having a fair crack at a tune even if it sounds like someone has just thrown a set out of a window. Trouble is with this kit, is the space it all takes up, and so we’ve found one being shipped from Lilliput, a desktop drum kit deswcribed as “badumn tish”. None of that hight tech trickery or touch pad nonsense, this is an old-school drum set one tom-tom, couple of snare drums and a splash crash cymbal all finsihed in chrome – £14.95. Whilst we have you, why not nab a couple of these drumstick pencils to play your new acquisition with, let the annoying begin.

We’ve mused over doing “something funny for money” and raising cash for Comic Relief for months now, unable to think of anything that inspired us enough to organise an event however we thought the game was up and we’d just have to make a donation. Inspired by a find earlier this week in the form of Private Plastic we thought a character race of some kind might be in order, but where? on what? and who would join us? A few phone calls later and the race is on – Brands Hatch are lending us their track, Razor scooters are being provided and the riders include Honey Monster, Katsuma, Ken, Barbie, Bananaman, Morph, Captain America and The Hulk so far. We have a couple of big names vying for the remaining four places and shall be making our selections this weekend. In the words of Sir Bob, well someof them at least “give us some of yer money” on our donations page. If you fancy popping down to see the action read on for more details, we’ll be posting the film we’re making right here next week so you can enjoy all the action.

Sing-a-long-a-ma-jig-a-long…a

What do you get if you cross a Furby with a Teletubby? A Sing-a-ma-jig, of course.

Set to be Mattel’s biggest release for young’uns this year, Sing-a-ma-jigs come in a variety of colours, and with a variety of songs to serenade you with. Apparently they even harmonise when you collect a few – finally, your very own barber shop quartet!

Still, at a very pocket friendly £12.99 it’s easy to see how come summer we’ll all be sing-a-longing to the sing-a-ma-jigs.. possibly on the way to the bin, don’t ask us why but we’re predicting a very slight annoying x factor to these little fuzzy-wuzzies…

In the Loop(z)

At first glance we really wanted this to be some kind of Hot Wheels contraption that fires tiny toy cars at unsuspecting passers by.. (can you see how that would work?)… it’s not.

But it is still pretty cool. Mattel have decided to take a daring-death-defying leap into the world of infra-red based modern gaming, with the Loopz. Infra-red beam sensors will detect when you place your hand through the semi circular rings opening up a world of seven gameplay modes to you.

Hand eye co-ordination (not our strong point) is an absolute necessity here as the Loopz combines the memory, movement and music of up to four people at a time. Loopz is possibly the offspring of a night of passion between Bop-it and a Dance Mat, but it’s got that addictive je ne sais quoi which will drive you mad!

Paper Jamz Get Toyology Gold

You may remember us getting ourselves in a pickle (jam – pickle – geddit?) over these a while back, well now the musical masterpieces have gone and won our Toyology Gold award!

The guitars, which are played by touch alone – no need to learn tricksy chords – have got the gold; an award we don’t hand out lightly – it goes only to those toys that the panel feels possess the ‘wow factor of a 10/10’, longevity of play and will appeal to an incredibly broad demographic.

Our Chief Toyologist had this to say: “Paper Jamz is a definite contender for plaything of 2010, pick one up and wave goodbye to more minutes than you imagined; it’s that addictive. All our testers were in agreement, from the musically inept to those who were taking guitar lessons, a hugely entertaining plaything with an educational element too. ‘Keep it away from the parents’ was their advice, as you might not see it for a while.”

“It’s a real honour to win this award from Toyology.co.uk,” said Graham Spark, sales director of WowWee UK. “Paper Jamz guitars are a fantastic addition to the WowWee line-up and with drum kits, amplifiers and accessories coming later in the year, we’re all rocking to the news!”
