Toyology

They’re a very visual lot those playthings aren’t they, but we thought we’d try out a media platform where toys weren’t getting an airing. We approached the UK’s leading  parent and kid focused radio station to ask for a Toyology slot. The lovely people at Fun Kids radio said we could have tuesdays at 6:45pm and we said YEEEEEEEES. There are over 300,000 people across the UK tuning in every month on their DAB radios and also online and it infally confirms our status bestowed upon us by a few individuals of having “faces for radio” – FOr you 80′s kids check out this link to the Donna Summer classic tune that’s ben in our heads since securing our place on-air.

We whizzed over to toy heaven (AKA Hamley’s) and managed to catch up with toy inventor Mark Forti, of William Mark Corporation, to talk about his fabulous new Flitter Fairies…

Toyology: Ok, I’m here at Hamley’s with toy inventor Mark Forti, good afternoon to you. How are you enjoying your day so far?

MF: It has been absolutely crazy but amazingly enjoyable.

Toyology: So you’re a toy inventor – that’s the stuff of dreams, how do you become a toy inventor!?

MF: I didn’t even dream of being a toy inventor when I was a kid because it would be too cool, but when I was in college I invented a toy called the X-ylo, it’s a flying cylinder that flies two hundred yards, so mostly I invented aerodynamic toys for a long time and now I think I have seventeen patents, oh my gosh, I can’t believe that.

Toyology: That is just greedy

Not-so-Silly Putty

The winner of the Firebox Inventor competition has been announced and, beating off some fierce (and much older) opposition, is 12 year old Tom Spring.

The winning creation, Putty Monsters are based on the old favourite but will encourage social networking as your man made monster will melt back into gooey form just a few hours after you’ve named it, taken a few snaps and revelled in the glory of your achievement.

Now Tom’s winning design will go into production and the jammy thing will be taking home half the profits. We caught up with the young inventor to find out more…

Oh Pleo!

We’ve mentioned the Dinosaur briefly this week whilst chatting to Vivid Imaginations, we did lift some footage directly at Toyfair but after much deliberation have decided to show a professional version of the chap in action rather than ours.
