You’ll be hearing and seeing plenty more about the LEGO(R) DC Universe Super Heroes range over the coming weeks as it hits the shelves, we’ve uncovered it on the virtual aisles on pre-order at Firebox and thought a heads-up was only fair so you could try and save some cash. Our favourite by far is the Batcave set, complete with Bane and his drilling machine trying to rescue Poison Ivy whilst Batman and Robin try and stop him – you decide who prevails. The set lets you transform Bruce into Batman as he travels down in the lift, it has a Batcycle included, the Drill Tank has flick missiles and there are a raft of other accessories to justoifyb the £70 price tag, but wait, what’s that, Holy Bargain Basement Batman, the range starts at about £10 with a Catwoman on a motorcycle….Can you resist her lure? We’re also keen to get our mitts on a Superman minifig, looks the business….

Launched in Vegas this week into what is likely to be the biggest toy genre for 2012 the AppGear range is an evolution from the iOS “appcessories” we saw last year from AppToyz with the unputdownable AppBlaster. These Augmented Reality toys herald the beginning of a raft of toy launches in this area over the coming weeks but Wowwee are first out of the blocks with theirs, and mighty impressive they look too. A range of six is set to be unleashed in the next month, each game requires a physical purchase and then a download of the free app, and happily they all support iOS and Android.

The titles are Alien Jailbreak, Zombie Burb, Elite Commander, Foam Fighter, Akodomon and Mysterious Ray Gun – Look through your smart device and virtual worlds appear in your room, there is little doubt these will, at between £10 and £20, be a sensation. Beware people walking around with toys attached to their mobiles, an increase in lamp post related incidenets is certain to ensue the release of these games. A question to Wowwee if we may though, is the Mysterious Ray Gun so named as it is a mystery to what this particular product is actually about? More Videos of the range in action this way please….

We’ve been treated to a fair few Scalextric licences over the years, James bond ones were pretty good, Toy Story didn;t float our slot-car racing boat, this pair of beauties has us grinning from ear to ear. Why we’ve had to wait for so long to get Star Wars and Scalexctric to tema up Darth only knows, and frankly we don;t give a Yoda because it’s finally happening – Exactly when we’re no sure. So, we have the Micro 1:64 scale Death Star Attack set with a Lord Vader Tie Fighter battling a Luke Skywalker X-Wing, the spaceships have working lights and the track has a glow-in-the-dark print for late night missions. Then, well this is the one that’ll have pre-order buttons ablaze when we find out when/where/how much, the 1:32 scale Battle of Endor, a 4.3 metre track with woodland features and accessories and Luke Skywalker and Scout Trooper aboard a pair of Speed Bike There is also the promise of more sets and solo vehicles to add to your Star Wars track, Like this all very much we do.

Our memories of Airfix are of getting our fingers stuck together and using as much paint on ourselves as on the models, the most enduring recollection however was the utter satisfaction of placing our completed creation in its pride of place. This year Airfix are releasing over 60 new models, we struggled to select a favourite but decided the Cutty Sark tall ship would be our re-introduction to model construction. Check out the line up HERE

One hundred years ago today, on December 14th, 1911, the Norwegian Roald Amundsen and four companions trudged through fog, bitter cold and lacerating winds and stood at the absolute bottom of the world, the South Pole. We don’t even fancy getting our hands too cold, and with snow set to start falling in northern parts of our fair Isle today we’re thinking it best to get loaded up with kit.We gave our highest accolade to a snowball blaster the other week, the same outfit also have this slightly more manual snowbvall launcher, which is ideal for the flanks if you’ve built up a small snowball attack unit. The Arctic Launcher TracBall has a snow scoop which you then use to compact ypour ammo into the ideal sphere so it goes further/faster and hopefully on target too.

Utterly pointless toy of the year prize is awarded to this, Air Table Tennis. Toy you’re most likely to consider buying this week or sticking down as an entry on your Santa List award goes to this, Air Table Tennis. With no ball needed, it’ll not get lost, with no table needed you can satisfy your Ping Pong whims wherever and whenever you want. FLick the switch and make your serve, and marvel at the satisfying “clonk” sound eminating from the bat, then the sound of the ball hitting a table thats not there, the opponent (that’s the one, that’s not there) returns the shot “tock” and now it gets tricky, this isn’t just a sound efffects machine! You must now judge the speed of their shot from the time it takes to bounce on your side of the table and match the timing with a return hit and another, deeply satisfying “thwock” as you return the ball, and repeat – Your virtual opponent varies the speed of the return, this is getting addictive now and we’re only reading about it. This way please.

On the first day of christmas…

The time of advent joy is nearly upon us and we are more than a little bit excited. However, there is a childhood obesity epidemic out there people and it’s time to start thinking outside the chocolate box and inside the toy box.

We are very much in love with this year’s Playmobil advent calendar range -  a toy a day.. well it doesn’t exactly keep the doctor away, but it makes us really happy.

Yes, they’re a bit more pricey than your average chocolate buy one get one free alternative, retailing around £10-£15 dependent on your bargain hunting skills. But the plus side here is that you’ve got a reusable festive scene to get out year after year. Well, unless you choose the dinosaur version.

We don’t care, we’ve got both versions and we’re gonna let the dinosaur loose in the Christmas post office, free to rummage through Santa’s sack and wreak havoc all over the place and see what the little guy with the magnifying glass, teamed up with Father Christmas, is going to do about it. HA.

Quite frankly, it’s taking all of our will power not to open up all the little doors before the 1st December is even here.

In our scramble to put as many crossover category toys to the test this year (think Skylanders, Wappydog, Angry Bird plush etc) we’d somehow almost missed this plumber based box of racing good ness. The Mario Kart Battle pack features a Mario and Yoshi sat in their rides and an assortment of track accessories for you to establish where your hairpins and chicances should be placed. whilst you race the lights on the nift RC unit have lights which each represent an action you’d find on the console version,

  • Mushroom: Gives a speed boost
  • Green Shell: Sends your opponent hurtling backwards
  • Lightning: Sends your opponent backwards, disabling them for several seconds
  • Banana: ‘Shoots’ the kart behind and pushes it backwards
  • Star: Causes your opponent to lose control

Added sound effects make this about the best non-pixellated based racing system around. Head over here for yours.
