You might have heard of Parrot previously, known best for their Bluetooth headsets to date, this welcome departure has us very hot under the collar. The A.R. Drone just announced in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is fitted with a combination of accelorometers, sensors and gyros to assist the four blades in making flight easier than ever. Controlling the flying machine using the accelerometers inside your iPhone or iPod Touch just tilt forward, back and to the side to direct your craft with other controls such as rise, rotate and down are acceessed on the touch screen. The fun is far from over, the AR Drone is fitted with a couple of cameras, the one one the front beaming images back to your handset giving you a pilots eye view. Using Augmented Reality (AR) technology the developers at Parrot have opened up a whole new world of RC flying, using the front camera and a bit of downloaded software your handheld device will show the real environment you are flying in overlayed with robots to be destroyed or Aliens to overcome. It looks absolutely knockout and we will most certainly be at the front of the queue for first full production model. Find out more HERE
