Card trading game is utterly absorbing

Pit This fast-paced card trading game has been receiving rave reviews online, pretty easy to pick-up-and-play but almost impossible to put down and leave alone once you've been bitten by the commodity trading bug. EaAch player has to try and collect a series of nine cards in their hand by swapping with the others in the game, but its by no simple swapping means, you've to shout and scream over the others voices in an almost "Trading Places" fashion to get the deal you want whilst others try the same. This game has been in print since 1903 when Parker Brothers brought it to market – £4.99 from Gameslore a must have Boxing Day boredom buster and ideal stocking filler fodder.

No rules randomness

Tipton_lg Book releases generally pass from the Toyology inbox to deleted at an incredible speed yet "on the tip of my tongue" took our fancy. Sent one on the day we decided to have a Toyology PowWow at the local watering hole did the hardback many favours as our relaxed status allowed the book some scrutiny not usually allowed. Its 348 pages of near useless factiods impressed us, it is the kind of trivia that'll not get you up the payscale but impress on other levels nevertheless. Testing you on the 48 different "ologies" inexistence (we aren't one) and nine banned swimming pool activities from that famous eighties poster a little pre-reading before pub-play will certainly impress.Turn it into a beer based quiz or just read the contents out, either way t'is a winner at £12.95 from IWOOT

Fancy a floodlit pool table

Aurora_t3_w500 Its a standard MDF pub sized pool table by day but after hour the blue LED'scome into play oozing cool blue light across the playing surface, now that really is batchelor pad heaven. If you are having trouble justifying the £447 then consider its gloss black cover turning it into a dining table of sorts and the final "get your wallet out" moment is the disovery of a green baize underside for poker playage. The Aurora is available now from Liberty Games

Beetle
After asking the legions of LEGO lovers which motor they'd most like to
see immortalised in brick the answer came back as the Beetle, and here
it is presented in its iconic 1960's "Charlotte" phase. Attention to
detail in and around the 41cm long vehicle is spot on, when you've put
the 1,600th piece in place you'll love your new found smug grin as
others admire it . Opening passenger, boot and bonnet doors, moveable
gear stick, opening glove compartment and folding seats give you plenty
to play with and details such as VW logo decal, windshield wipers and a
rear-view mirror, engine in the back and spare tyre up-front all add up
to make this a cracking car. The only real trouble you might have is
finding a prominent enough space in which to show yours off. £79.99 at

Yoodoodoll
We took delivery our first Yoodoo doll this weekend, the website promised us an easy-to-make mini-me kit and with the weather forecast looking rather shabby we plunged the buy button and Mr Postie arrived saturday morning with our purchases (10/10 for prompt delivery). Inside the box you get a plain white t-shirt, kirt and pair of jeans to dress up your modern day Voodoo then its time to take the transfer sheet and print a mugshot of yourself onto it before ironing it into place, it takes a matter of minutes to complete your rather odd, but delightfully different gift. The companies website has an increasing range of prints to personalise the t-shirts and some great ideas for adding creative flair to the outfit. There's also a new range of dog shaped dolls on which to place a photo of your pooch. Prices start at £9.99 from Yoodoo online
